word for the year 2023
(oops, sorry for the delayed posting, forgot to update for the year in my wordpress upload.)
simplify. it’s my word for 2023. i know what you are thinking: “oh come on mary jo, that’s too easy for you.” yes, i am a minimalist at heart, and generally keep things pretty simple already. but this coming year will be a step-change for @sjrhoffman and me as our youngest (joseph) is leaving for college in nyc in january and we become official empty nesters. steve and i have talked a lot about what the next year will look like. we both are working on books, and that takes a lot of mental space. and it’s a curious thing, but when i crave mental space i also crave space in all areas of my life—physical, financial, social, psychic. so, this year we will be doing our best to pair down to the essentials. we want the trivial reduced to triviality, so we can make more room for the important. i am looking forward to the challenge.
do you have a word for 2023? i’d love to hear it.

You do indeed have changes a’coming! I think your word sounds perfect for the year. I don’t have a word, I have a phrase. “let it be, learn to rest”. My 76+ year old mind/body refuse to accept the limitations of aging! So, if I can just integrate rest into my daily routine…
