found some queen anne’s lace stems, and thought i’d open them up to see what is inside those little wicker baskets. looks cozy and inviting to me. and i bet those abundant seeds even have a bit of protein in them. i’m surprised some small animal hasn’t evolved specifically to make winter homes inside these plush little nests. perhaps the long thin stems are too fragile to build a proper home upon. still, it feels like a missed opportunity to me.
