in a fit of cleaning, my fifteen year old almost threw out my twig collection. what? how can anyone look at this and think it was junk?
:-)
driftwood and twigs collected on countless beaches and a few deserts
today we will bury my father. he was larger than life, complicated, charismatic and the center of gravity for my large, boisterous, and loving romanian family. we have planned a beautiful and irreverent funeral. afterwards, we will drink martinis with extra olives. it will be just as he would have wished. everybody called him Papa. he will be terribly missed.

Condoleante…
I have been visiting StillBlog for a few months now (I did go through every single photo in a big gulp of stillness though), but I have never commented. Today is a special day for you and I just wanted to say that my heart is still with yours. Every day, you inspire me to be present, to pay attention, to rejoice in a single breath of fresh air… I think your father did good by the world!reply -
My sadness for your loss. Lost my dad in 2005. Still feel the hole in my heart. He has become clearer to me in the years since his passing, which is the gift he gave me. Remember the good and bad days and his life as a wonderful dad to you and your family. Cherish the gift of being his daughter. Move forward in love.

I’m so sorry about the passing of your Papa, Mary Jo. I like the way you describe him as the “center of gravity”.

this puffball swelled from from a mini marshmallow, to a golf ball, to a baseball, to a softball, and just as my husband and son decided it was ripe to be cut into cubes, sauteed in butter, and served with pasta, the interior had begun to turn yellow-brown, a sure sign that the meaty fungus had started the process that would end with it looking like a leathery brown volcano of spores.
