because the rest of the understory vegetation hasn’t caught up yet, rogue raspberry canes are currently stealing the show right now. thickets of older canes are still wearing white bloom on their blue-red canes making dusty rose colored cross-hatched domes that the baby green leaves complement but do not yet hide. each mound of volunteer canes looking like a lesson in sustainable architecture. i gathered these younger canes, carefully with leather gloves, assuming they would be supple and make a fine little wreath. they didn’t want to bend. the wanted to snap. just like my seventeen year old.
