dandelions revisited

the dandelions are up. and unlike our imacculately green-lawned next door neighbor, the first emotion i feel these days when i see dandelions, is relief: “oh thank heavens the bees will have some nectar to sip. it’s been so long since they have had any flowers to visit.” i don’t think the same thought occurs to my neighbor, inside his noise cancelling headphones, as he manically leaf blows his driveway, and powers his tractor over a perfect, weed-free, bee-free lawn.

I love dandelions so much! We have a bunch growing in our garden. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get around to frying the flowers and sautéing the greens. Don’t worry…there are still plenty for the bees. :) I keep trying to convince my dad to keep his, but that’s not going to happen unfortunately. :)

Dandelions were the first flowers my son gave to me. I’ll always love them!

  • I agree with you completely, and here’s yet another reason: I never wanted my children to play on a lawn that was sprayed with poisons. These chemicals have been associated with increased cancer rates in children. And dandelions are beautiful!
