the icicles on the eaves are beautiful right now: long, blue, corrugated cones. the weather has been just warm enough to melt the snow from the roof but just cold enough to freeze the hanging drips before they fall. the pair in this photo were medium sized at about two feet.

cattails are one of the prominent features of my landscape right now. the snow has bent and covered almost everything but these sturdy stalks. and we have a lot of them! but it was the striped coloration that most caught my attention today. i don’t think i have ever seen it quite so striped before. it looks to me like tiger or tabby…like real cats’ tails.

while we were in france, i had a little indoor orange tree that didn’t get watered, and all the leaves curled up and fell off. when i finally got around to sweeping them up, the subtle variety of greens, and the delicateness of the curled edges made me take pause. so i decide to put them in a bowl on the counter for closer further consideration someday. today was that day.
and believe it or not, with a little pruning, and a lot of water, the tree is now in full recovery.
