one side of these sharp switchgrass leaves was flocked with frost this morning, and the other side could have been mistaken for summer green. this in-between season continues to vacillate between what is coming and what has been.

we had our first frost two days ago, and it was a stunner. i got up early this morning hoping for a similar show, but no such luck. on the other hand, the early bird did catch these frozen raindrops on some newly fallen leaves. we are at that point in the year when it is anyone’s guess whether the droplets will stay frozen until April, or will thaw like summer dew.

just a month ago, this would have been a bright purple bouquet of coneflowers. today it snowed. november.

this arrangement reminds me of the desolate footage after a tornado has ripped through. roofs and 2x4s and furniture, each meant for a specific purpose, tossed into thoughtless piles. i guess every bone, in its way, is the aftermath of a natural disaster.

psssst: here’s something I was just reminded of. it’s very hard to photograph white bones on a white background.

you make it look easy ;-) x

Did an extremely good job at it though. Must have solved the dilemma.

Difficult, maybe, but these white bones are beautiful. Every life intersects with a personal disaster, the happiest are of the natural kind!
