happy new year everyone! this timothy grass reminded me of fireworks, and seemed a properly still-blog-spirited send-off of 2013. which was a very good year for still blog, for me, for my family, and, i hope, for you.

i started trimming all the little chicken feet on the right to make them into the pattern on the left, and then I looked and saw that they were both patterns already.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the bright color of the dogwoods in my yard and trying to figure out how to take a photo, now you’ve gone and done a wonderful job! I recently discovered your site and took up your warm invitation to try a still. I’ve enjoyed it so much. You’ve given me inspiration to continue the 365 project into 2014. I’m in Minneapolis and so it feels especially good to see common sites of the region captured so beautifully in your photography!

if the other three seasons are about color, then winter is about shape. a blanket of snow creates the perfect seamless-white background for these stalks and their whimsical shapes to stand out. so i went out hunting this weekend, with the weather temporarily above freezing, and here is my prey.
