the opposite of spring

the opposite of spring

not to belabor a point but snow is falling outside my window again right now, on april 3. i feel these hydrangea blossoms, displaying the opposite of their bright summer color, are the appropriate symbol for this snowy april day, which is proving to be whatever the opposite is of spring.

yes, i am still posting winter photos out of a grim sort of devotion to seasonality. after several days of springlike temps, we got blanketed with six inches of snow overnight. this is something you get used to when you live in this state, but it’s not something you have to like. i would much rather be posting colorful spring buds right now, but that’s not what i’m surrounded by, so you get colorful winter branches and stems instead.

easter in america

easter in america

one of my husband’s clients came in today and told a story. he was walking home with a five pound pack of matzos under his arm for passover. his neighbor looked cursorily at the package, and then said, “happy easter.” america. land of the clued in, and the clueless, and we all live next door to each other.
